Part 2:  Unexplained Loud Booms and Light Flashes Persist in U. S.

Return to Part 1

February 20, 2013  Albuquerque, New Mexico - Since my February 1, 2013, Earthfiles and Coast radio reports about the mysterious and persistent loud booms, flashes of light and shaking ground and buildings, I have received more than a hundred boom reports from various parts of the United States. This peculiar phenomenon has persisted since early 2011. The following are some of the emails sent to Earthfiles by ear and eye witnesses to the strange booms and light flashes, often followed by the appearance of military helicopters flying in the area.

Booms/lights in West Michigan + Military, February 14, 2013

Walker, Michigan, is 7 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Hello, Linda:

On the night of Jan., 12, 2013, I had just laid down in bed at about 12:30 AM in my Walker, Michigan home. As I was laying there, it was as if in a flash it was noon on a bright summer day. I jumped up and just as I pulled the shade, it was as if someone hit the floor below me with a 20 lb. sledgehammer. At the same time, I heard what was like a sonic boom - but deeper and longer. I could feel it in my chest like the bass at a rock concert.

I waited up another hour, but nothing happened. The next day, though, at about 9:15AM, I was riding about 1.5 to 2 miles away when we ran into 11 or so military jeeps leading two military flatbeds. I have lived here 27 years and never have I seen any military presence of any kind.

RE:  Booms in Coldwater, Ohio, Feb. 15, 2013

Coldwater, Ohio, is 240 miles southeast of Walker, Michigan.

Greetings, I am reporting a loud boom that was heard in Coldwater, Ohio, on the west side of Ohio 2/14/2013 around 8:00 pm. It was clearly heard inside my house and made my dog get up and go to the door. Friends from around town started calling and texting about it. Found out the next day it was heard in other communities ranging from 10-20 miles away from Coldwater.

It was heard in the communities of St. Henry, Maria Stein, Montezuma, and Ft. Loramie, all of western Ohio. I've heard there was quite a buzz on Facebook and Twitter from people in this area. Unfortunately, there has been no mention of this event in the local media. Most people just shrugged it off and blamed it on guys messing around with tannerite - the exploding target stuff they use on gun T.V. shows like "Sons of Guns". More or less a big firecracker.

[ Editor's Note:  Wikipedia - Tannerite is ammonium nitrate/aluminum powder based binary explosive used primarily as a target for firearms practice. Tannerite is unique in that it is exceptionally stable when subjected to less severe forces such as a hammer blow or being dropped. It is supplied as two powders which are combined to produce the explosive.]

Personally, I don't think a couple of guys messing around with a home-made bomb could build something that would rattle windows and be heard/felt indoors 20+ miles away. Thank you.

Another email on February 20, 2013 from Coldwater, Ohio, resident:

Regarding the loud boom heard in west central Ohio I reported to you last week, this is the email I received from the sheriff's office. Not much to report, I'm afraid.

Mr. -----,

We did receive numerous calls regarding the boom. We have had a few suggestions as to what it was, but I'm not sure anything was ever confirmed.

Gery Thobe
Chief Deputy Sheriff
Mercer County Sheriff's Office, Ohio

Mysterious booms and flashes of light in De Soto, Illinois, February 16, 2013

De Soto, Illinois, is 477 miles southwest of
Walker near Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Hi Linda,
I recently listened to your January 31st Coast to Coast AM radio program about mysterious loud unexplained booms and flashes of light. During the show you mentioned several states that have reported these instances as well as southern Illinois. I live in southern Illinois on our 100 acres where our home and business are located. Specifically, my property is approx. three miles NE of De Soto, Illinois, and sits adjacent to the old Consolidated Cole Company.

Sometime around late October early November 2012, we experienced both the thundering booms and flashes of light on more than one occasion and each time there were NO thunderstorms anywhere even remotely close to our area. I did contact the local sheriffs office and they came out to investigate and found nothing.

The area that the sounds I heard and the flashes of light I saw were northeast of my property where there is nothing in that direction but thousand of acres of woods and some farm land. The time at which these occurrences happened were approximately between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.   I heard the strange booms while I was in the house and also when I went outside and to our gate to investigate. I also saw numerous very strange flashes of extremely bright light in several locations while I was outside.

I can say for a fact that the sound was nothing like the sound of rolling thunder and it is hard to explain what it sounded like. The first time I heard the sound while I was inside was very bizarre. My first thought was that it was thunder, but when I heard it again I knew it wasn't and I also checked the weather radars and there were no storms anywhere.

A weird thing that sticks out in my mind about the sounds from inside our home is that it was not like a rumbling or quick explosive sound, but seemed like it made the house "vibrate" - NOT shake - from a very strange sound. The flashes of light were also nothing like lightning or fireworks or anything that I have seen. The flashes happened in a couple different locations and at varying intervals. The flashes were not "up" in the sky but seemed to be at, or right above, the horizon.

As I had mentioned earlier I had contacted the local sheriffs office and they did come out on the first incident, but neither they nor anyone else I have talked to have found the source or explanation of what was the cause of the loud sounds and bright flashes of light. It was just all so bizarre.

Big Boom in Dairyville, Northern California, February 16, 2013

Dairyville, California, is 194 miles north of
San Francisco between Redding and Chico.

Greetings Linda,

Just to add to your data, there was a massive, concussive-type explosion last Friday, February 8,  2013 - above - and to the east-southeast of Dairyville, CA (between Chico and Redding, CA, and very close to Mt. Lassen).

It was midday, probably about 2-3 PM, and I was sitting inside in front of the computer when there was a very deep, concussive boom - like huge metallic objects colliding - that struck so hard and was so loud and ominous that it rattled the walls and windows and scared my dogs, cats and livestock to death. Imagine 3 Irish Wolfhounds, the equivalent of about 600lbs, hitting the sliding glass door all at the same time? I'm shocked it didn't shatter. They NEVER freak over anything. Horses and cats ran for cover, koi and goldfish dove to the depth of their pond and hid, and my Galah cockatoo was startled off his perch screaming.

But apparently nobody else heard it. At least none of the friends or neighbors I asked.

Loud Booms in Imperial Valley, California, February 16, 2013

El Centro, California, is the county seat of Imperial Valley that is 113 miles
east of San Diego, another region that has experienced the boom phenomenon.

I heard your boom report on Coast to Coast AM. I live in the Imperial Valley, which borders Arizona and Mexico. We are the last county on the southern part of California. I was catching up on Coast to Coast on You Tube and I heard the show where you were on talking about loud booms. Suddenly I remembered about a few months ago maybe around October or November 2012, my cousin and I were in my room playing online with a friend of mine from Los Angeles on the Xbox 360. As I was speaking to my friend on my headset, my cousin and I heard a loud explosion. It was around 1- 2 PM. It shook the house almost like when you feel the beginning of a small earthquake.

I thought it was a loud sonic boom, but it sounded like some kind of gas tank had exploded in the distance. About 3-5 minutes later the same boom sounded again. It shook the house again and it sounded like another explosion. So my cousin ran outside to take a look. I followed and some neighbors from across the street were asking my cousin where the sound was coming from. I looked at the sky which was clear and cloudless. We could not see anything.

Was it a sonic boom? When I went inside I told my friend about the second boom and as I spoke, we heard a third boom. Again, it shook the house and again it seemed like it was close to our location. I speculated with my friend about what it was and maybe thought he might know because he served 8 years in the Army and might have heard air craft that made a similar sound, but he did not know. After that we never heard those booms again, but I thought I should send this email because when I heard the show it is clear that this was not an isolated incident.

Booms in Florence, AL & Miami, FL
, February 16, 2013

Florence, Alabama, is 897 miles northwest of Miami, Florida, two states
that have had repeated boom phenomena.

This past week a few days before Valentine's, a loud boom occurred that shook my office in Florence, Alabama. Both me and a patient heard and felt it. We thought maybe it was an earthquake? I have felt mild tremors since Nov. 2012, but this was the first loud boom and it was a clear evening.

In 2011, I was in Miami, Florida, and the same thing happened there and it was a bright sunny day.

Re:  Mysterious Booms in Rotorua, New Zealand, February 17, 2013

Rotorua, New Zealand, is marked by the red pointer in the Southern Hemisphere.

Dear Linda,

I’m presently listening to your show on Coast to Coast AM from 31 Jan 2013 whereby you are talking about mysterious explosions being heard by people.

I want to inform you that I've heard them, too, here in New Zealand. I live in a small village with a population of around 800 people, just north of Rotorua. We have been hearing similar explosions above us. They first started approximately 2 years ago. The first time was earthquake-like and lasted 10 seconds maybe, shaking the house. I ran outside to see if there was a thunder storm, but there was nothing.

No more explosions or lightning associated with it on that night. This has similarly happened on several occasions now. We are at an altitude of 700 ft, I think.

I have also seen what I can only describe as what looked like a huge welder being used in the distance. It was weird in that it was so isolated to one tiny little area in the sky off in the distance. At the time, I recall watching it for a period of time and thinking,  'Man, that is the bizarrest lightning storm I have ever seen!' It was continuous for maybe 30 minutes or more.
I waited for the phenomena to reach us, but it never did. I got tired of looking at it and went inside, only to find it had disappeared when I went to see its progress on my location. I have never experienced this phenomena again.

However, I have seen a cluster of 20 + UFO orbs above my house, during the daytime. This was my very first experience with these. They formed a geometrical shape, which has been with me and familiar to me since I was a child as if whatever they are was communicating with me through the geometrical shape.

Torrance, California, Mystery Booms, February 19, 2013

Torrance, California is 21 miles southwest of Los Angeles.

Hi Linda,
Long time fan of yours. I live in Torrance, California, a suburb just southwest of Los Angeles. We have been hearing loud unexplained booms for several months now. I called police on the weekend of February 16-17, either Sat or Sun, as it sounded like an explosion just behind my house.

Today I was home sick and at exactly 12:42 PM Pacific, an explosion was so loud my windows shook, car alarms going off everywhere.

I called Torrance Police. Approximately 15 minutes late, an officer knocked on my door to get more info. While we were talking, his radio was going off due to several dozen people calling in from miles around about other booms! I have no idea what these booms are, but they seem more frequent. My 22-year-old son, who is home most days, tells me he hears this several times daily now.
