More Mysterious, Eerie Metallic Sounds — Invisible Conflict? Or Warning?

July 14, 2014 Albuquerque, New Mexico - Since the current cycle of strange sounds around the world began in early 2011, perhaps the oddest is the metallic scraping, trumpet sounds or metallic humming that have been reported throughout North America and even one loud pulsing hum event linked to aerial diamond-shaped craft over Tangshan City, Hebei Province, China, in September 2011.

After my Earthfiles report and Coast to Coast AM radio broadcast June 26-27, 2014, I received more than a hundred emails and Earthfiles Facebook comments about metallic scraping, crashing, humming, and trumpet sounds that have left earwitnesses wondering if the loud, bizarre sounds are coming from some kind of invisible conflict? Or are a warning?

Report: Metallic Boom in Federal Way, Washington, on July 8, 2014
Date: July 9th, 2014
Federal Way, Washington, is 22 miles south of Seattle on Puget Sound.
My name is Abigail. I am writing to let you know about a loud metallic boom I heard in the sky last night above my apartment complex. As a Coast To Coast AM listener, my first instinct was to contact you. I live in Federal Way, Washington, on the edge of a State Park bordering Puget Sound. Last night I was reading late into the evening in the living room of our second story apartment. My 4-year-old daughter had oddly not wanted me to leave her in her bedroom alone at bedtime, as she said she was scared, so I let her fall asleep in my husband's and my room with plans to carry her back to her room after she had fallen asleep.
At 1 AM, I looked at the time and determined it was time to go to bed, as I was the last person awake. Within 30 seconds of leaving my book and comfortable chair, I was paralyzed by a sound that I have never in my life experienced before. It was metallic, and my first thought was that our community trash compactor had exploded or even been thrown across the parking lot. The sound, which lasted roughly 7 seconds, started as a metallic explosion, followed by a screeching and scraping sound that blended into a metal reverberation that tapered off until it was gone — like the warbling of a metal sheet being shaken. It came from outside and from above. Our apartment is on the end of the building, so I know it was not coming from another apartment. Our windows were also open, so the sound I experienced was clear and defined and I could tell where it was coming from — above!
I rushed down the hall to my daughter's room and looked out the window, which faces the parking lot and other homes as that's where the sound had come from. For at least 5 minutes I observed the sky, the cars, and the other homes, but no one stirred. No one opened a door or turned on a light. Nothing. At 1:06 AM, I gently woke my husband to ask if he had heard anything. I already assumed he hadn't because his first instinct as a veteran would have been to jump up and find out what it was. When I woke him and asked, he said he hadn't heard a thing. My cat, a very lazy and plump Scottish Fold, was snoozing peacefully beside my daughter, who was also unaffected.
I went to the kitchen and looked out again. No fire alarms, no one checking on what it was. At 1:07 AM, the toilet in the apartment above me flushed so someone was awake up there, if only briefly. However, as we just moved in, I have not gathered the courage to ask if they heard anything.
What happened next is probably the strangest part of this whole experience. I determined if my daughter was scared of her room (and the sound came from that side of the house outside), then I was going to keep her with us for the night. The master bedroom window was open and facing the State Park. As I lay in bed trying to come up with any excuse for that sound, I became suddenly aware of how deathly silent everything was. I thought perhaps my head was snuggled into a pillow or the comforter at an angle that blocked my hearing in a way that made the forest seem so eerily still and silent. I sat up and realized the forest really was deathly still.
Usually, I hear an owl or the trees moving, or night birds and bugs. But last night, right after that metallic sound, the forest was so still it made me feel oddly alert. After listening for a few more minutes from deep in the forest came the screeching cry of something dying. It was like a cross between the death cry of a rabbit and the squawking of a strange bird. This went on for about 30 seconds. Right after it ended, the forest returned to normal and no further sounds were heard.
When my husband woke at 4:15 AM to drive into Seattle for work this morning, I asked again if he remembered anything. He remembered me asking, but reminded me that he had slept through mortar attacks and IED explosions overseas, so I'm pretty much alone in this.
Because I was awake and alert, I know I was not dreaming or imagining things, as it came out of nowhere. My first thought was to contact you so that if nothing else, you could at least have it on record that such a sound occurred in Federal Way, Washington, on July 9, 2014, at exactly 1 AM. The entire ordeal, from the start of the sound at 1:00 AM to the end of the forest silence at 1:19 AM lasted 19 minutes.
I'm curious about the reaction of the wildlife, as well as my daughter's strange aversion to her room. The whole experience is perplexing to me. I do not drink, I do not smoke anything, and I've never done any drugs. The only thing in my system was a cup of Earl Grey tea. My mind was clear.
I checked the news and there is nothing reported. I decided to go back and listen to your most recent appearance on C2C. When you played the Manitoba recordings from 2012, I got goosebumps on my arms. Though the sound I heard was much shorter, that sound is EXACTLY what I heard in the middle, between the explosion sound that started if off and the reverberating warbling sound of metal bending back and forth.
I'm not the kind of person who jumps to conclusions. I have been over every possibility my mind can conjure as to what it could be. I've thought the sanitation department was replacing or emptying the dumpster. But at
1 AM and with the absence of a truck, I'm throwing up my arms and admitting I can't come up with an explanation. I don't know what it was. I know it was not normal, yet the neighborhood today goes on with life as if nothing abnormal has happened. I'm left wondering: What was it?
If my story is at all helpful to your research I ask only that my last name be kept off record. I am a student working towards a degree in Archaeology and though I want answers, as we all do for these sounds, I wish to keep my last name between you and me. Thank you so much for your time and God Bless.
Re: That Loud Metallic Scraping Noise in Ruidoso, NM, June 25, 2014
Date: July 9, 2014
Ruidoso, New Mexico, is 74 miles nearly straight west of Roswell.
I heard your interview on Coast to Coast radio, and I heard this same noise right here in Ruidoso, NM, west of Roswell on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Nobody has mentioned it, and I have been reluctant to mention it to anyone myself. Anyhow, it started in the morning around 9AM, and continued until approximately 3PM. It sounded exactly like a snowplow blade being dragged on a dry road.
I thought at first the City Boys were moving a snowplow or road grader somewhere and couldn't get the blade to go up or something, but then it lasted for most of the day - gave me a headache - and there was nothing to be seen going on like building or road construction within 5 miles of my home on HWY 70 West. Nothing that could account for the noise happening on my side of town, and it was loud enough to be maybe a block or two away, if it actually was a snowplow. The sound was exactly the same as you described in the interview.
I thought you might like to know, whatever is happening, is happening in New Mexico, as well. It's pretty scary. And the booms happen here frequently, maybe twice or three times a month, but the locals have always assumed it is from mining operations over by Cloudcroft. They shake the ground and buildings, and it's very unnerving. Nothing is ever in the local paper about any of this. So I hope you figure it out. Thanks, Linda, for all you do.
Re: Horn Sounds in the Sky - A Conflict?
Date: July 1, 2014
I thought I would send you an email on my experience with the sound of horns in the sky. This might have nothing to do with what is actually happening, but this is my experience. About a few years back before I heard your reports at Earthfiles and radio on this issue, I had a dream where I was watching a very large flying vessel in the sky. The vessel was what seemed to be a quarter to a half-mile away and about 200 feet in the air. This vessel had a rounded front that was kind of like the front of the Star Ship Enterprise on TV.
Under this rounded front and set back under the main part of the ship were rectangle bays with a short runway or flat platform. As the ship began to move, a saucer-shaped ship showed up behind the big ship and about 400 feet above the big ship. As the large craft moved, two small saucers the same size as the first one behind the large craft, came out of the bays. These two saucers peeled back to the first alone saucer. Each of those two stationed one in front and one in back of that alone saucer, apparently to block that saucer from following the large ship.
As the two saucers held the one saucer in place, I heard a very large trumpeting/horn sound coming from the three saucers. I have always thought that the horn sound was used to disable the solo craft in the middle. As the two other craft held that lone saucer at bay, the large ship quickly flew off.
Re: Loud metallic crashing sound in Pennsylvania, Early June 2014
Date: June 29, 2014
I meant to share this with you a few weeks back. I posted this on the Web Bot Forum right after it happened.
I took an RV camping trip with my sister over an early June weekend. I wanted to see the Pennsylvania "Grand Canyon," so there we went.
Pine Creek Gorge, Pennsylvania's “Grand Canyon,” is 190 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
The 47-mile-long gorge was carved by the Pine Creek in Tioga State Forest.
Its deepest section is 1,450 feet at Waterville, Pennsylvania at the southern end.
On the last night of a 3-night trip, at 1:30 AM in the early morning, the most intense "crashing” noise woke me from a sound sleep. It sounded like cars crashing into each other.
We were up at the top of the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains, deep in the woods to camp, no roads anywhere within miles. I called out for my sister in the next compartment in the RV, no answer. I got up and tried to wake her.
"Did you hear that?" She didn’t answer. I guess she was sound asleep.
I looked out the door of the RV to the back wooded area, shining the flashlight through the woods. Nothing to be seen or heard.
I stepped out and saw two women on the other side of the camp ground road and they were calling to me, “Did you hear that?” they asked.
I went over to talk to them and they were visibly upset. They had been several sites down the stretch with friends and heard and described the same thing I heard. Their friends insisted on driving them back to their trailers because they felt it was not safe.
They said they had been camping there for 16 years and had NEVER heard anything like that before. They said that the sound seemed to come from around or behind my RV. I have no explanation, but would like to know what the heck it was.
Re: Mystery Sounds, Vieques, Puerto Rico, July 2012
June 27, 2014
Isla de Vieques, “Small Island,” is an island-municipality of Puerto Rico in the northeastern
Caribbean (aerial below), part of an island grouping sometimes known as the Spanish Virgin Islands.
Vieques is part of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and lies about 8 miles (13 km) east
of the Puerto Rican mainland, and measures about 21 miles (34 km) long by 4 miles (6 km)
wide. Its population of is around 14,000. Vieques is best known internationally as the site
of a series of protests against the United States Navy's use of the island as a bombing range
and testing ground, which led to the Navy's departure in 2003. Today the former
Navy land is a national wildlife refuge.
Heard you on Coast last night and was really shocked at the sound you played from Manitoba, Canada, that was picked out as close to Gordon's experience in Prince of Wales Island, Alaska.
Strange Metallic Sounds 2012 Manitoba, Canada (1:37): https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xf4e-AxJ7nM
That is just like one I heard in Vieques, Puerto Rico, in July 2012. It was the metallic/trumpeting sound that is so loud and makes you think you can't imagine what man-made object could make such a noise. I was with a friend visiting the island and we were staying at a hotel that was up high in the hills.
One morning very early (6:30 AM or so), I woke up. The whole side of our room was open and facing the ocean although we were up high so you had to go out and stand on the ledge to actually see the water. The metallic sound filled the air and seemed to be coming from the ocean, or at least the sky in that direction. It repeated over and over for I'd say 30-40 minutes. My friend was asleep and I kept waiting for the loud sound to wake her up, but she didn't. It was so loud and repetitive that all the dogs on the island started howling.
The next morning, at the same exact time, it started again and this time my friend woke up and heard it. We both agreed the only thing we could think of that would make a noise of that magnitude would be a giant ship with drilling equipment that would drill into the ocean floor. But both days I'd gone out and stood on the ledge and couldn't see any boats big or small.
Here is the really strange part — after the second time I heard the strange metallic sound like that Canada recording, I started asking people around the island who lived there about it and they all acted like they didn't know what I meant. I found this crazy because all the dogs were reacting to it so loudly. People just chalked it up to the ammunitions that were left unexploded by the U.S. military and that they are still detonated from time to time when they find them. But this noise was NOT the sound of something exploding.
I have not been able to stop thinking about the strange metallic sound since it happened and wanted to share with you because what we heard in Puerto Rico sounded so much like what you played last night from Manitoba, Canada.
Thanks for all your work!
RE: Strange Noise in the Sky, Late Summer 2012 — A Warning?
Date: June 29, 2014
Sault Ste. Marie was incorporated in the Great Lakes along the St. Marys River in 1888
(Google pointer above), 345 miles north of Detroit, Michigan. It now has some 75,000 residents.
During World War I, and after, military forces protected the locks from a possible attack
by Nazi German aircraft from the north over the pole. A joint Canadian and U.S.
committee called the “Permanent Joint Board on Defence” drove the installation of
anti-aircraft defense and associated units of the U. S. Army Air Forces and Royal
Canadian Air Force to defend the locks.
Dear Ms. Howe:
I very much enjoyed your June 26th radio show on Coast to Coast. I reside in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. In August or September of 2012, we were startled by the sound of metal scraping on metal exactly as described by the people you interviewed in Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our windows were open because it was such a nice evening. My dad, mom and I were watching television when out of nowhere this hideous, metallic rasping sound enveloped the entire block. It seemed to come from the sky and was everywhere and nowhere.
I went outside to see if the neighbor was working on his car, or if anyone was doing any kind of metal grinding. Nothing! The hideous sound lasted a minute and during the entire time, I was at a loss to discover a logical source. The sound was menacing, foreboding, a screeching unrelenting assault on the auditory senses. All I can say is that the sound seemed like some kind of warning, like an automated cosmic alarm to get out or prepare for something. Weird does not even begin to describe this sound. It was unearthly. Very astounded to discover that others have heard the same sound in different parts of the world! Too weird! What does it all mean?
Re: Strange metallic sounds like Gordon's in Alaska, Winter 1973
Date: June 28, 2014
Coachella, California, is 130 miles southeast of Los Angeles near
Palm Desert and Joshua Tree National Park.
I’ve always been reluctant to talk about this because it is such a strange tale. But after listening to Gordon’s report from Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, on your 6/26/14 news broadcast on Coast to Coast concerning the sounds that he described and the YouTube he sent from Manitoba that was close to what Gordon heard, I had to write and tell you about my own similar experience. I would like to remain anonymous. If you decide to retell this story please change my name as I am a 60-year-old lady now and I — along with many family members — own businesses and are well known in Coachella Valley. I don’t want to cause them any grief or embarrassment, which unfortunately often accompanies people trying to report.
I was a college student living in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains up Hwy 74 in the Coachella Valley above Palm Desert, California, in the winter of 1973. At the time my home was very isolated with just a few small “homestead”-type houses dotting the hill tops in this area — all at least 1/2 to 1 mile apart. Mine was situated on the highest peak where you could see 30 or 40 miles to the north (all the way across the valley to the high desert Joshua Tree area) and at least 25-30 miles to the east toward the Salton Sea. The house sat on a leveled off peak and had a cliff about 80-100 feet in front of it. Beneath the cliff was a steep canyon to the desert floor and dirt “switchback” type road which leads its way up to my house.
This is my story: I had invited 4 friends to dinner. We had just finished eating, cleaning up and were sitting talking when all of a sudden we heard this horrible metallic, scraping, synthesizer sound over the music we were listening to. It sounded in part very much like Gordon’s YouTube sound, but with the other sounds he described incorporated. (We were all sober... In fact myself and one of the other women in the group did not drink at all, ever.)
We were all very startled and somewhat fearful to hear this “eerie & horrible” sound as it was usually totally silent at this location. The sound appeared to be coming from the road beneath the cliff at the front of my house. So, I decided I should go outside and look over the cliff and see what it was. This experience was so creepy that it took me a minute or two to summon the courage to do it. It was a very clear star filled night with a bright moon. From my vantage point, I could see the entire valley except to the southwest where my vision was impaired by a part of the mountain range that ran down to the valley floor.
Initially, I ventured out by myself, but as I began to look down toward the road into the canyon, I glanced back toward the house noticing that two of my friends (a man and a woman) had decided to join me. The loud sounds were continuing, but even louder and more disconcerting outside. As my friends approached, we 3 peered into the canyon. We studied it and the road. They were both clearly lit by the moon and there was nothing there!!!
What happened next was really astounding. The metallic, scraping stopped. But, the synthesizer sound combined with a type of humming started. Although we could see nothing, we could hear and feel something massive rising from the canyon below until it was directly above our heads. Looking up we could see a kind of “energy wave” moving in a circular motion above us. But, we could see the stars through it! It felt so close to our heads that we were terrified and felt as though we had to scrunch down on the ground — which we did.
The next thing I knew is that I was standing looking directly East. I have no memory of standing up or turning in that direction at all. The last thing I could remember was previously facing North toward the cliff and looking up. My two friends had disappeared!!! As I was looking East, I saw a steam of light moving at an incredible speed toward another mountain range about 25-30 miles away. It was there in a split second and as it crossed over the range it made a backwards “Z” maneuver up and over.
70 Minutes of Missing Time
The white/yellow light looked not like a steady stream, but like dashes all the way there until it disappeared behind the other mountain range. It was so fast that I could see the dashes like a trail until it disappeared. If that makes any sense? Dazed and confused, I went back into the house. Everyone was there! We were all just staring at each other and looking around, and a couple of people were giggling. We were all asking each other “What was that?” Several of my guests were sitting or standing in different locations in the room than they were in when I had ventured outside. This was odd because the house itself was just a big room. The kitchen, dinning and living area all ran together and there wasn’t a lot of good choices for comfortable seating. It was then that we realized that approximately 70 minutes had passed and that none of us had any memory of the time past the first 3-5 minutes of the encounter. I can’t tell you how frightened we all were.
This has bothered me ever since it happened 40 years ago. I have considered reporting it many times. It is so similar to what people have recently been reporting that I had to say something because this happened 10 years before your other reports. Have you ever had a report of a craft that flashed off in a series of dashes that way?
