Roswell 509th Bomb Wing Captain and “Non-Human Body Parts” in July 1947

Reposted March 6, 2024 – December 23, 2011  Springfield, Massachusetts – On  December 1st, I received an email from 57-year-old Patrick Amp L. Murphy, who served as an FB-111 Bomber Crew Chief and Inspector for the 509th Bomb Wing at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire after duty in Vietnam. Patrick worked with the 509th Bomb Wing from January 1973 to May 1975. His father, Francis R. Murphy, born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1905, had enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1940. During World War II, he was promoted to Captain and was assigned to the 8th Army Air Corp with an intelligence unit on the front lines. He worked in North Africa desert wars and then was in Naples, Italy, until the war ended in 1945. Captain Murphy was wounded four times, received four purple hearts and a bronze star. From Italy, Capt. Murphy was assigned to Roswell Army Air Field, New Mexico, in late 1945 through 1947 to early 1948.

Patrick Murphy emailed a phone number saying he would like to talk with  me about what his father told him concerning July 1947 when suddenly all was plunged into secrecy, “Big Shots” came to the base and his father with a TOP SECRET clearance who handled shipping projects for the RAAF was not allowed to even enter an off limits hangar where “body parts that were not human” were crated for shipment by planes to Wright Field near Dayton, Ohio.


Interview:

Patrick Amp L. SO YOUR FATHER IS WORKING FOR THE 509TH BOMBER WING IN NEW MEXICO – 1946 TO 1947 – AND YOUR FATHER, WORKING INTELLIGENCE, IS AWARE THAT PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THE STRANGE DISC AND TRIANGULAR SHAPED CRAFT IN THE SKIES AROUND ROSWELL?

Yes. He said that eight P-51s were stationed at Roswell that were not there before within a week of the flying saucer incident with Mr. Arnold (Ken Arnold) in the northwest (June 24, 1947).

[ Editor’s Note  The Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting occurred at 3 PM on June 24, 1947, when private pilot Kenneth Arnold saw the bright flashes of nine, silver-shiny unidentified moving rapidly from Mount Baker to Mount Rainier, Washington, at a minimum estimated speed of 1,200 miles an hour, not known at the time.

`Also in his book on page 161 is this photograph of Kenneth Arnold of Boise, Idaho, standing in the cockpit of  the airplane he was flying near Mount Rainier, Washington, at 3 PM on June 24, 1947, when he saw a formation of nine “very bright (silver-white) objects coming from the vicinity of Mount Baker ... at tremendous speed.  ... Arnold’s description of the objects also led to the press quickly coining the terms ‘lying saucer’ and ‘flying disc’ after Kenneth Arnold compared the craft movements to skipping a saucer across water. ]

Pat Murphy:  “The P-51s were stationed there and were always armed. They weren’t there just for training and those planes were well equipped for offensive, not just defensive capability.

THAT OCCURRED AFTER THE KENNETH ARNOLD REPORT ON JUNE 24, 1947 – SO WHAT DID YOUR FATHER TELL YOU HAPPENED AT ROSWELL ARMY AIR FIELD IN [FIRST WEEK OF] JULY 1947?

In July, when a UFO supposedly crashed, the base was told not to leave. I believe he said it was the first 48 hours – people were told to be staying on the base. There were no leaves. Everybody who was off base was told to come back to the base.

I said, ‘What happened with you at Roswell? UFOs?’

He said that the second and third day after the crash – that’s how fast they got organized to get these things off the base. This stuff was all gone within four days total from the time of the accident until the time the cargo planes started moving the stuff. It was all done and over within four days.

WHY DID YOUR FATHER USE THE TERM ‘ACCIDENT’?

Originally they thought it was a plane crash. And that’s just what he kept calling it, an accident. He never called it a crash. He never called it a UFO. He said it was an accident and that was it. And he did remember seeing cargo planes coming in within eight to ten hours of the supposed accident/crash. He also remembered ambulances right after the crash coming on to the Roswell Army Air Field base. Three Army ambulances came on to the base.

He didn’t know what was in them. He didn’t know that until a few days later talking to one of the security guards. They were talking in a bar and the security guard said, ‘You wouldn’t believe what was in those crates!’

LIKE WHAT?

Well, the RAAF security guard said he saw strange-looking metal in the crates in the off limits hangar. He said there were things in there he had never seen as far as colors, shapes. He said the biggest piece was probably four by five feet. For my dad, it was strange for him  because he had never seen it before.

My father asked the security guard, ‘What happened? Was it a plane crash? Who was hurt? Why are they coming here (RAAF instead of a hospital)?’

The security guard said all he saw was pieces of bodies – he never saw an entire body. He only had a glimpse of them coming out of one ambulance and going into this hangar. At the time, the hangar was totally closed, except for higher ranking security officers – not the privates. They were stationed on the outside of the hangar. People with experience and higher rank were allowed to go into the hangar area.

DID YOUR FATHER GO INTO THE HANGAR?

He could not get in. He had a TOP SECRET clearance and he could not get in. My father was very curious because he did have a TOP SECRET clearance, but that’s when the security officer told him he had seen parts of bodies inside the hangar that did not look human.

AND THE SECURITY GUARD SAID TO YOUR FATHER,‘THE BODIES ARE NOT HUMAN’?

Exactly, yep. That what he saw was not human and it was not a complete body. Then three days later, they started removing the crates they were moving. My father was partly in charge of that, making sure the crates were loaded on the airplanes going to Wright Field, Ohio. He believed the biggest box was four to five feet and there was no manifest.

YOUR FATHER READ THE ORIGINAL REPORT ABOUT NON-HUMANS AND TECHNOLOGY FROM SOME PLACE ELSE?

Yes, he read all that.

WHAT DID HE SAY IT SAID?

He just told me they had recovered bodies. He did not know how many. He thought it was three or four. He said there were body parts and in the report, he read they were small, did not appear human. In the report, it said exactly that, ‘Not human body parts found at the site.’

My father could not understand why they changed the report afterward. [ The official counterintelligence lie by Ramey, De Bose et al below.]  That was one thing that always confused him and made him start wondering what was going on.

Editor’s Note: Wikipedia – On July 8, 1947, the Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) public information officer Walter Haut in Roswell, New Mexico, issued a press release stating that personnel from the field’s 509th Bomb Group had recovered a crashed “flying disk” from a ranch near Roswell, sparking intense media interest. The following day, the press reported that Commanding General of the Eighth Air Force (Roger M. Ramey) stated that, in fact, a radar-tracking balloon had been recovered by the RAAF personnel, not a “flying disc.” A subsequent press conference was called, featuring debris said to be from the crashed object, which seemed to confirm the weather balloon description.

DID YOUR FATHER EVER SAY TO YOU, ‘I SAW A DATE ON THE DOCUMENT I WAS READING AND IT SAID..’?

He knew it was July before his birthday. He was born on on the 24th of July (1905).

IF YOUR FATHER WAS IN INTELLIGENCE AND HAD SERVED IN THE WARAND HAD FOUR PURPLE HEARTS AND A BRONZE STAR, WHY IS IT THAT YOUR FATHER COULD NOT ASK ONE OF HIS COMMANDING OFFICERS, ‘WHAT HAS HAPPENED HERE?’

Every time he tried to do anything like that, after the first or second day he said that he couldn’t even get near any of the stuff. He did have a TOP SECRET clearance and he did approach a Colonel and my father was told he had no need to know. And if there was a need for him to know any information, he would be informed later, but he never was.

My father was in charge of helping to get the crates on the airplanes going to Wright Field, Ohio (later Wright-Patterson AFB). He said the crates were anywhere from four to five feet to smaller boxes two feet or smaller. He never got to see a manifest. There was no manifest as far as he ever saw and he was in charge of this type of thing as far as shipping was one of his jobs. The crates were merely numbered. My father in World War II had never seen any cargo – no matter how small – that did not have a manifest and shipping orders. These boxes were just merely numbered and had Wright Field marked on them. That was it – the name of the field they were going to and numbers.

AND NUMBERS.

That was it.

IF THERE ARE TWO OR THREE DAYS OF THREE CARGO PLANES LEAVING ROSWELL ARMY AIR FIELD GOING TO WRIGHT FIELD IN OHIO AND BACK, TRANSPORTING BOXES AND COMING BACK TO ROSWELL FOR MORE – THEY MUST HAVE TRANSPORTED A TREMENDOUS DEBRIS FIELD TO WRIGHT FIELD.

My father said there were planes that could have been the size of  a B-29, and those are pretty large airplanes. He said that’s how much the boxes could fill. He described how the boxes were brought in  to the hangar full when they got there. They were brought that way from wherever the cargo trucks were coming from.

YOUR FATHER NEVER ASKED TO SEE WHAT WAS IN THE CARGO BOXESTHAT HE WAS OVERSEEING?

The Col. said again there was no need to know. And in those days, you did what you were told. And with his years of experience, that’s how he was. He was military and he knew the rules and what you say and don’t say.

DID YOUR FATHER EVER SEE PHOTOGRAPHS OR DETAILS ABOUT THESE NON-HUMAN BODIES THAT WERE TAKEN INTO THIS HANGAR OFF LIMITS AT ROSWELL ARMY AIR FIELD IN JULY 1947?

No, he never got to see anything. I don’t know if he was told something before he left the service. I don’t know if he had to sign something after that.

“Big Shots” At RAAF After Disc and Non-Human Bodies Retrieved

IN 1995, BEFORE YOUR FATHER DIED, DID HE TELL YOU ANYMORE DETAILS ABOUT WHAT HE KNEW FIRSTHAND SERVING FOR THE 509TH BOMBER WING IN THE ROSWELL  ARMY AIR FIELD IN JULY OF 1947?

I was in the U. S. Air Force and when I got back from Vietnam (1973), I was stationed with the 509th  at Pease AFB in New Hampshire. That’s about the only contact we (father and I) had as far as really talking about the 509th itself because I was in the 509th. We were watching a UFO show and he told me ‘flying saucers’ – that’s what they were calling them at the RAAF base (in 1947).

WHAT IS YOUR PERSPECTIVE IN DECEMBER OF 2011ABOUT THE ENTIRE UFO PHENOMENON AND WHAT CIRCULATED AROUND THE ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO CRASHES – PLURAL – OF JULY 1947.

I believe it was a UFO because my father would have said if it was a B-17 or a B-29 or a particular airplane that had crashed, he would have said something. He told me everything about North Africa and he told me everything about Naples and the things he had done. But he never really got involved much involved (with me) about what happened at Roswell. It was something he didn’t want to talk about, except what he already told me. He didn’t want me to dwell on it.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO WERE AT THE ROSWELL ARMY AIR FIELD IN JULY 1947 WERE WARNED AND GIVEN THE MOST STRICTORDERS TO NEVER TALK ABOUT EXTRATERRESTRIAL BIOLOGICAL ENTITIES CRASHING.

My father did say after that accident, or crash, that it was quite awhile before Big Shots left the base. They were there for quite awhile. He said for two or three weeks.

WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BIGSHOTS?

Generals and Colonels and above him. He was a Captain. So anybody above him would be someone with power. But he said there were a lot of high officers – he called them Big Shot people. They stayed on the base and stayed in town and then left. They never really talked to him, they never saw them (Big Shots) doing anything  out of the ordinary. They just could not understand why they were on the base as long as they were.

AND THEY WERE THERE FOR TWO WEEKS?

Two to three weeks, yes.
