March 10, 2003 Cambridge, Massachusetts - Four thousand miles down below our planet's surface is the center of the earth's iron core, depicted as brown in the illustration below. There is so much pressure there that the iron is hard from the center outward for about 746 miles (1200 km). But then it begins to melt and flow like porridge cooking in the yellow area that pushes upward as orange magma. That moving, melted iron also produces the magnetic fields that surround the earth and upon which much of earth's surface life, satellites and space technology depend upon for orientation and for protection. If magnetic fields did not trap highly energetic particles racing from the sun, all kinds of damage could be done to living organisms and space technologies.

March 10, 2013 Hobart, Tasmania - Early Saturday morning, March 2, 2013, something happened on a dry grass hill in Hobart, Tasmania, that caused a localized fire shown in an Australian Broadcasting Corporation News photo below. Even though there is a strict ban on fireworks in Tasmania because of the fire hazard in their 2013 hot, summer drought, officials speculated the cause was somebody's fireworks. But not confirmed.

UPDATE March 10, 2013: Earthfiles has received several references to sonic warfare with Ultrasonic Weapons (USW) - outside human hearing - and Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRAD), in which sound is used to cause pain in crowd control and other applications and can damage ear drums within 49 feet (15 meters), according to LRAD Corporation officials.
The Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) is a sonic weapon developed by LRAD Corporation to send messages, warnings, and harmful, pain-inducing tones over longer distances than normal loudspeakers. LRAD Corporation was formerly named American Technology Corporation. In 2004, Carl Gruenler, a former vice president of military and government operations for American Technology Corporation said that being within 100 meters (330 ft) of the LRAD is extremely painful, and that it was designed for use in short bursts at 300 meters (980 ft), to give targeted people a headache. He said that “you definitely don't want to be” within 100 meters (328 feet); the device will cause permanent auditory damage and can damage ear drums within 49 feet (15 meters). March 7, 2013 Bowling Green, Kentucky; Elizabethtown, Illinois; Flint, Michigan - On March 1st, Earthfiles reported more about the persistent, mysterious and unexplained loud boom phenomenon that has continued to be reported over the past two years in many different parts of North America for reasons unknown. These recent March 1, 2013, reports concern a new military “sound gun” used in Iraq and the question about why military helicopters fly search patterns below 500 feet over residential areas where the loud booms and often bright flashes of light occur.

March 1, 2013 Louisville, Kentucky - Earthfiles continues to receive reports of loud and unexplained booms from around the United States, one as recently as Tuesday night, February 26th, from Charleston, West Virginia. Calls to Kanawha County, West Virginia, 911 dispatchers started at 5:30 PM EST, February 26th. People reported feeling their buildings shake, including employees in the WOWK-13 TV newsroom in Charleston. A resident emailed to me that night:
“I heard this boom this evening, and evidently so did a lot of other people. It was short and loud and very immediate, by which I mean I thought my son, who was upstairs at the time, had knocked over a chest of drawers - or the tree trimmers, who had been working outside, had cut a tree down on the building or something. It vibrated the building. It startled me and I jumped up to look outside – there was nothing going on at all, and my son was sleeping upstairs.”

March 1, 2013 Nacogdoches, Texas - On February 13, 2013, a new web journal called DeNovo Scientific Journal appeared on the internet as Vol. 1, Winter 2013. In this first issue is only one article entitled, “Novel North American Hominins, Next Generation Sequencing of Three Whole Genomes and Associated Studies.” The study boils down to this description provided by the lead author, 58-year-old veterinarian Melba Ketchum, D.V.M.: “A team of eleven scientists with expertise in genetics, forensics, pathology, biochemistry and biophysics has sequenced three whole nuclear genomes from a novel, contemporary species of hominin in North America.”

March 1, 2013 West LaFayette, Indiana - Phobos and Deimos are the two moons that orbit Mars. Phobos is notoriously strange and small - only about 17 miles long and 11 miles wide, shaped a bit like a potato. Phobos is one of the darkest bodies in our solar system with composition similar to carbonaceous chondrites, the space rocks that contain higher percentages (3% to 22%) of water as well as organic compounds. Adding to the mystery is that Phobos has an unusual circular orbit that is very close to Mars, puzzling planetary scientists about how that occurred since most solar system bodies do not have circular orbits. Phobos moves around Mars faster than Mars itself rotates. That's why Phobos rises and sets twice each Martian day. The Phobos orbit is so low that its angular diameter as seen from the surface of Mars varies visibly as its position moves in the sky. Further, Phobos's density is too low to be solid rock, sparking speculation that Phobos is not only porous, but is hollow and perhaps even an artificial construction.

March 1, 2013 Louisville, Kentucky - Over the past two years, Earthfiles has reported about many boom mysteries throughout the United States often followed by low-flying helicopters that seem to be in search mode. Two dramatic recent examples of low, searching military helicopters a few days after loud, unexplained booms both occurred mid-January 2013, in Louisville, Kentucky, and Cedar Hills, Utah.
